This Easter weekend we went to Hamburg for a short visit. It is 5hrs drive away from us in Lund, so we decided to take the car and re-stock with some German beer on the way back. Unfortunately all the shops were shut. It was dam cold but we managed to fill our time by sampling the local beers.
Aquí tienes Lucia probando el famoso Labskaus de Hamburgo, una mezcla de carne, patatas, huevos fritos y remolacha. En la foto parece asqueroso pero es un plato muy bueno.
Here you see Lucia trying out Labskaus, something of a local delicacy in Hamburg. The mixture of meat, potatoes, fried eggs and beetroot doesn't look too appetizing but it actually tastes quite nice.
El domingo nos fuimos a ver un submarino. Nos sentimos un poco decepcionados porqué no era un barco alemán sino ruso (parece que la marina británica tuvo demasiado éxito con los submarinos alemanes). No obstante fue un tour muy interestante y nos salimos del barco con una impresión muy fuerte de la vida dura que los marineros rusos deberían haber vivido. El barco es de 1976 pero parece de la segunda guerra mundial.
On Sunday we went to see a U-boat. Not German as you might expect, but Russian - a bit disappointing as we wanted to see the real u-boats from ww2. This particular one was build in 1976 but seemed much much older than that. We were astounded by the lack of space in the u-boat and we left with the feeling that life on board must have been hell. Even 20mins was too much for us!
